Leave the city glow behind
Fort Ouest is busy during the day, but the property becomes calm after sunset. Our goal is simple: share an accessible place where amateur astronomers, families and curious visitors can observe together without the glare of the city.
We are astronomy enthusiasts—not professional astronomers. The magic comes from the site, the people who gather there and the knowledge everyone chooses to share.
Set up. Look up.
The parking area is the principal observing zone. Other spots and mountainside platforms may also be available, depending on conditions. Bring what you need to move your telescope safely between areas.
Please bring a headlamp and everything required to carry your equipment. Keep the grounds clean and leave the site ready for the next observer.
Warm up without ending the night
During organized evenings, the restaurant may stay open until 1 a.m.—and sometimes later for larger gatherings. Interior lighting can be dimmed to protect the observing experience. Selection varies by event and season.
Hot dogs, pogos, fries, poutine, burgers and other event selections.
Hot chocolate, coffee, tea, soft drinks, water, juice, chocolate, chips and more.
Onion soup, wonton soup, samosas, spring rolls, wraps and chili may be offered.
Hand warmers, toe warmers, merino or thermal socks and Fort Ouest souvenirs.

Fort Ouest acquired and later upgraded its LMDA 114 (4.5-inch) Econo telescope through La Maison de l’Astronomie. Conversations with their team highlighted how few convenient observing locations exist around the region—and inspired us to share our quiet evening site.
